Qualcomm Stadium San Diego first opened its doors to the public in 1967, and is today best known for being home to the NFL's San Diego Chargers. The venue was the brainchild of local sportswriter, Jack Murphy and in actual fact, went through a phase of being called the Jack Murphy Stadium. It wasn't until 1997 when the Qualcomm Corporation bought over the naming rights, that the venue became 'Qualcomm Stadium' as we know it today. Before moving to their new home at PETCO Park in 2003, the MLB's San Diego Padres also called Qualcomm Stadium 'home.'
With San Diego State University's college football team, The Aztecs also playing their home games here, it comes as no surprise that the Qualcomm Stadium schedule is a busy one. However, while football is arguably the annual highlight for most San Diego locals, the venue's impressive 70,000+ capacity also make it a popular choice for concerts. Metallica and Guns 'n' Roses have both featured on the Qualcomm Stadium schedule in the past.
