      Sibelius & Rachmaninoff

      Eun Sun Kim, conductor
      Nancy Zhou, violin

      TEXU KIM: Spin-Flip
SIBELIUS: Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47
RACHMANINOFF: Symphony No. 3 in A minor, Op. 44

Please join us 45 minutes before the concert for "What's the Score?", a lively talk about the composers and the repertoire given by commentator Nuvi Mehta from the stage of Copley Symphony Hall.

Revel in the majestic scope of Jean Sibelius’ only concerto and Sergei Rachmaninoff’s most personal — and most nostalgically Russian — symphony written while he was in exile in Switzerland and America. But first, discover the playful humor of Korean composer Texu Kim’s Spin-Flip, inspired by the connection between ping-pong and quantum physics. Nancy Zhou, winner of the 2018 Shanghai Isaac Stern International Violin Competition, performs.

This concert is part of the celebration of Isaac Stern@100 – a yearlong project to honor what he stood for as a musician, a teacher, and a human being. The best way to honor the ongoing gift of his legacy will be to continue his mission to make music and the arts a force for change in the world.
